LBA Services.

Bookkeeping

Trying to do the accounts yourself while running your own business? Leave the admin to us. We can get your accounts up-to-date in no time. Our bookkeeping services include invoicing, debt collection, entering supplier invoices, coding credit card purchases, preparing payments for authorisation, bank reconciliations and management of your fixed asset register.

Payroll

Payroll is a complex area of accounting. Are you confident you are getting the calculations right and meeting your obligations as an employer? We can process your payroll, track employee entitlements, help with superannuation, undertake your annual reconciliation of wages and prepare payment summaries for your employees at year-end.

BAS Services

Are you getting your Business Activity Statements (BAS) right? We can review the GST coding in your accounts to check the tax treatment is correct, reconcile GST and PAYG Withholding accounts, prepare the BAS for your sign off, and then lodge it with the ATO. BAS Agents are given extended deadlines to lodge on your behalf and we can also deal with any ATO queries.

Monthly management reporting

To ensure your accounts are accurate they should be reconciled regularly. We can perform this service for you and prepare any month end journals to ensure your financial information is always accurate and complete. We then analyse the result and compare it to budget or forecast, and prepare dashboard reports that show your business’ key performance indicators. This is presented to management with commentary in plain English.

Budgets, forecasts and cashflow

We offer a suite of planning services. We can help you build a budget for the year and report against it monthly. We can prepare templates so you can update forecasts quickly and easily. We can also assist you with complete reforecasting if circumstances change significantly during the year. We can help you keep an eye on cashflow by translating your budget or forecast into a cashflow forecast using your payment terms and estimates of capital expenditure.

Accounting system implementation

We specialise in helping businesses choose and implement systems to streamline the back end of their business. From changing or setting up accounting software to finding a front end solution that integrates, we can help make your processes more efficient and robust. We manage the implementation and provide you and your staff with training and/or ongoing assistance.

LBA FAQ.

We can give your business the attention it needs monthly at a reasonable rate. We can provide you with financial results in a timely manner so you have all the information you need at any point throughout the year to make informed business decisions.
We aim to reduce your year-end compliance costs by ensuring your accounts are in great shape. We liaise with your tax agent and provide a fully reconciled set of accounts at year-end so they can prepare your tax return.
No, we are registered BAS agents not Tax agents. Our focus is on your monthly accounts. We can work with your external accountant at year-end and provide an accurate set of accounts for them to review for tax purposes. If you are looking for a tax agent please feel free to get in touch and we can refer you to one.
Yes! At LBA we love process improvement. We will review your needs then provide a report outlining your options including any suggested software or hardware upgrades. If you decide to go ahead, we can manage the implementation process and provide training for you, as well as being available to provide ongoing assistance. We will empower you and your business to generate the financial information necessary to make those important day-to-day business decisions.
The difference is in the qualifications they hold. Accountants have usually studied a Commerce Degree majoring in accounting or an accounting specific degree. They then study for either their CA or CPA postgraduate qualification, which is run by the Institute of Chartered Accountants or the Institute of Certified Public Accountants respectively. This is undertaken in the first few years of their career as it involves a requirement to undertake practical experience as well as study. Accountants can work for a firm and specialise in audit, insolvency or accounting and tax advice, or they can work in industry and be the internal accountant in charge of monthly management accounts, reporting, analysis, budgeting and forecasting. Accountants can also consult for small businesses as we do at LBA.

A bookkeeper may have studied a Certificate IV in Bookkeeping. To be a member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers they must have a minimum of 2 years experience and a proven level of bookkeeping knowledge. Bookkeepers understand a business at a highly detailed level. They are involved in entering transactions (client invoices, supplier payments and bank reconciliations), preparing payroll and lodging BAS. This is where there is some cross over with accountants.

Both accountants and bookkeepers can be registered BAS Agents if they have the right qualifications and experience. Accountants who have worked in industry may have as good an understanding of payroll as bookkeepers; it just comes down to personal experience. Here at LBA we have the skills to provide both accounting and bookkeeping services as detailed above.
If your data is stored in the ‘cloud’ it can be accessed online rather than from your computer’s hard drive. There are generally strict data security requirements to ensure privacy but it is always worth checking the fine print carefully to understand how a particular cloud service will work for you.

So, should you be moving to the cloud? Benefits of the cloud include being able to access your data from anywhere you have access to the internet. You no longer need to go into the office or log into your server remotely to access your data. Equally you can give your adviser access so they can look at your information in real time and answer any questions you may have. You will no longer lose everything if you lose your laptop, your back up is destroyed or your computer gets a virus.
No problem! No job is too big or too small, we’d be happy to help.
